Summer 2008

we had numerous club records broken and several top 5 performances in every age division. the summer was not only a success as a club but many individuals had personal best and improved dramatically. This was the first summer we didnt have any seniors but we are looking forward to the opportunities that will present itself in the next few years with scholarships and athletes going off to college.

Latonia Wilson graduated from Louisiana Tech.

Mark Dillard was signed as a free agent in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills

Jennifer Glover graduated from West Point ( army).

Tia Lee became the head softball coach at Broadmoor High School.

Shelneka Adams was married on August 4th 2007.

Latonia Wilson ran for the USA on the NACAC team and also the Pan American team winning a bronze in the 200m at the NACAC games in san salvador and a bronze medal on the 4x400m relay team in Rio De Janeiro Brazil. She just completed her final year of college track and Louisiana tech and will be running professionally trying to make the Olympic team in 2008. Latonia has also signed with Athletes Inc. owned by Coach Ellis to represent her in her professional endeavors. Latonia will also graduate from Louisiana Tech this year.

Cassie Jackson was married in February 2007

Myra Combs was married May 2007

Rushetta Baker graduated from Alcorn State University and is now coaching in texas

Fredrick Townsend is running overseas continuing his track and field career.

Kylon Wishom graduated from Southern University this summer.

Josh Williams passed away in January 2007, Our prayers and best wishes go out to the Williams family.

Shandra Freeman and Latonia Wilson help Louisiana Tech Win the outdoor WAC conference Title.

Shandra is scheduled to be married this summer!!!

Coach Ellis Received his MASTERS in Sports Management in December!

Coach Tracy moved over to Belaire High School this year and helped them place in the top 10 in the state meet!

Precious Collins, and India Anderson graduated for their respective high schools this year.

We had numerous great performances at the outdoor state meet this year, check out the state meet results. Precious won the 800 and the mile. India set a class record in the long jump and is ranked number 3 in the country right now. dionikka won the class 1A 100m dash also as an 8th grader.

We had some great performances at the State indoor meet on today!!! The following were state champions: Jennifer Glover in the 55m hurdles, Ryan Fontenot in the 55m hurdles and Mark Dilliard in the 55m dash and 400m dash. All three ran times ranked in the top 10 in the nation. Donta Fisher finished 2nd to Mark in the 55m dash and his time ranked in the top 20 in the nation. India Anderson placed third in the long jump also. We had other participants that did really well also.

Mark Dillard signed a football scholarship to Louisiana Tech!!

Mike Clayton who ran with us briefly in 2000 declared for the NFL draft. Keep him in your prayers that he will be successful.

Ahmad Jasmine ran at the prestigious Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden in New York. He is completing his junior year at university of Florida.

Jarred Jenkins is now playing football at Southeastern la university. He is the starting cornerback #20.

Shelneka Adams graduated from Alabama State in August of 2003 and is in graduate school and running her last indoor season.

Erica Jones was married this past summer 2003.

Krystal Cunningham is in physical therapy school in Texas.

Latonia Wilson has signed an athletic scholarship to run track at Louisiana Tech University. Congratulations to her and God Bless. 

Meagan Ruffin  of West Feliciana won the district championship in the 100m and 200m and was part of two winning relays.

India Anderson won the Long and Triple jumps for Baton Rouge high at the district meet.

Josh Williams won the 100m dash for East Ascension at his district meet.

Ahmad Jasmine made All-American status at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet this past weekend in Arkansas by finishing in 6th place in the 60m dash and running first leg on the 8th place 1600m relay team while competing for the Florida Gators track team. Congratulations to ahmad.

Sheree Francis as a current member of our club finished as National Champion in the High Jump in New York at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships. She was in a jump off and finished 2nd but since both athletes went out at the same height it was declared a tie for first place. She was co-champion at 5'10.5 inches. Sheree competes locally for Lutcher High School. Congratulations to Sheree.

We had some great performances out of some of our alumni in their college conference meets this past weekend.

WAC

In the WAC conference meet Shandra Freeman (La. Tech) finished 2nd in the 60m dash and broke the school record in the process with a time of 7.51. She also ran 24.80 in the 200m dash which is her personal best in college.

Wendell Woods ( La. Tech) also placed 8th in the conference in the 55m hurdles

SEC

In the SEC Ahmad Jasmine ( Florida) finished  2nd in the 55m dash and 4th in the 200m dash. his times put him on the provisonal qualifying list for the NCAA championship meet.

Fred Townsend (South Carolina) finished 3rd  in the pentathlon.

SWAC

Shelneka Adams (Alabama State) was 4th in the 400m and 2nd in the 800m as her team won the SWAC Indoor Championship.

Michelle Schultz ( Texas Southern) was 17th in the shot put and 7th in the weight throw.

Tameka Holliday ( Alabama State) was 8th in the 55m hurdles.

Rayla Hunt (Southern) was 4th in the 1600m, 5th in the 3000m and 6th in the 5000m.

Korey Crumpe (Southern) was 15th in the 1600m.

SOUTHLAND

Alvin Brown( Southeastern La) was 10th in the triple jump and 11th in the long jump
